Presidential Council on Intellectual Property held the Artificial Intelligence-Intellectual Property Conference on the 4th to mark the day of intellectual property in order to start social discussions and actively promote communication with the public on the tasks under discussion by the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Intellectual Property Special Committee (hereinafter AI Special Committee).

At the conference Lee Sang-jik chairman of the AI Special Committee said We will come up with tangible and detailed policy measures to resolve uncertainties in industries and research sites regarding artificial intelligence and intellectual property and promote economic and social innovation. He also added that he will lead international discussions by establishing the principles and directions of pan-government initiatives in global issues above all things.

In the first session under the theme of AI in Our Life Intellectual Property Next to Me CEO Park Ji-eun of Pulse Nine introduced the changing aspects of our society along with the case of content created by artificial intelligence while Jeon Jung-hyun of Law Firm GwangJang also a member of the AI Special Committee clearly explained the copyright laws and issues raised in the industry to protect the learned artificial intelligence model.

Below is an interview with Park Ji-eun who participated in the conference.

Q1. Please introduce yourself and what you do.

CEO Park Ji-eun: Im Park Ji-eun CEO of Pulse Nine Co. Ltd. We are making contents and trading platform by utilizing artificial intelligence technology in graphics.

Q2. Why do you think is the important of intellectual property?

Representative Park Ji-eun: In an increasingly advanced knowledge service society individual ideas and creations are needed to have the right use and improved value. I hope that the creations created by AI will be also protected fairly. 

Q3. What do you think is the best intellectual property in the world history? Why?

CEO Park Ji-eun: I think its a posthumous copyright. I mean famous pop stars and so on.  I think the profit after death is the best intellectual property.

Q4. If you have any intellectual property such as patents designs trademarks copyrights trade secrets etc. please introduce it to us.

CEO Park Ji-eun: I have copyrights on algorithm patents UX UI patents trademarks designs utility models and creations. Among them if creations from AI are recognized I think we can secure about a million more by the end of this year. 

Q5. What do you think Korea should strive to become an intellectual property powerhouse?

CEO Park Ji-eun: I think the intellectual property in the future will change a lot with AI technology and the contents it creates. Nobody knows exactly how society will change in the future so I think its most important to deal with it with flexibility.

Q6. Last question! What would you describe your intellectual property in one word?

CEO Park Ji-eun: To me intellectual property is just protection of ideas. Intellectual property is a legitimate protection because the economic value and influence of ideas are significant.

Park Ji-eun CEO of Pulse Nine Co. previously worked in the Strategic Media Marketing Department of CJ E&M and served as a director of the CSR Business Department at Navers Happy Bean Foundation. See is currently the CEO of Pulse Nine Inc. has worked as an outpatient professor of Big Data MBA at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology and served as the first lab director of the Data Lab at the Institute of Everyone. She also published a paper UGly-Net at the 2019 NeurlPS Neural Information Processing System Conference.
